THE STANISŁAW MONIUSZKO CHORAL ASSOCIATION

THE STANISŁAW MONIUSZKO CHORAL ASSOCIATION

The Stanisław Moniuszko Choral Association in Łódź was founded in 1894, initially as a Sunday choir at St. Joseph’s Church, composed of workers from Izrael Poznański’s Manufactory. In 1905, the Russian authorities officially recognized the Association, and since then it has been active continuously, promoting choral singing and enriching the cultural life of Łódź.

The choir’s rich and diverse repertoire includes Latin masses, sacred music, folk songs, patriotic pieces, musical and operatic works, performed in Polish, German, Russian, Italian, English, Ukrainian, and Yiddish.

The interwar period marked a golden era for the Association: between 1921 and 1926, its members built a headquarters that hosted a men’s choir, women’s choir, children’s choir, and orchestra, counting over 200 performers. Renowned conductors such as Tomasz Kiesseweter and Karol Prosnak shaped the ensemble during that time.

Currently, the mixed choir has 32 active members. It regularly takes part in national and international festivals, earns awards, and performs in schools, senior centers, museums, and Catholic and Protestant churches.

Since 2010, the choir has been under the direction of Magdalena Szymańska.

In October 2024, the choir celebrated its 130th anniversary with a special Jubilee Concert, summarizing over a century of passionate musical journey.
