THE OPEN SOCIAL CHOIR

The Open Community Choir is an initiative launched in 2019 at the Silesian Museum in Katowice, bringing together singing enthusiasts regardless of experience or skill. Anyone is welcome to join – the only requirement is a desire to make music together. The choir is made up of people with diverse backgrounds and identities: students, working professionals, retirees, people from various cities and countries, as well as people with disabilities. Recruitment is conducted year-round, fostering openness and the continued development of this unique community.

The choir's repertoire is accessible and light, adapted to the ensemble's current capabilities, yet stylistically diverse – encompassing traditional and folk pieces, early music, and songs from various world cultures.

The choir regularly performs and participates in cultural events such as the Night of Museums and the The International Festival Night of Choirs in Ruda Śląska.

The choir also actively supports social initiatives, participating in the "MUSIC – Supporting People in Depression" campaign, for which the conductor serves as the project's mentor.

The Open Community Choir is a space where music becomes a tool for integration, support, and relationship-building – a place where everyone is truly welcome.

The choir is led by Dr. Krzysztof Dudzik, a music educator and conductor with many years of experience in leading choirs, and a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Krzysztof Dudzik uses the relative method in teaching music, derived from the concepts of music pedagogy by Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály. He is the artistic director of the The International Festival Night of Choirs in Ruda Śląska.

In addition to his artistic work, he is also involved in psychotherapy.
