SANTARELLO

The "Santarello" Chamber Ensemble was founded in 2002, born from a group of friends' desire to develop their musical interests. Currently, the choir operates under the newly opened Municipal Cultural Center in the Witosa District of Katowice. The ensemble brings together people of various ages and professions, united by a shared passion for music, and choral singing in particular.

The choir maintains an extensive concert schedule and has achieved significant success in numerous competitions and festivals. It participates in prestigious musical events, such as:

  • The 20th Anniversary Silesian L. van Beethoven Festival in Głogówek.

  • The 2nd "Cantus" National Choral Festival named after Józef Świder in Katowice.

  • The 26th Silesian Festival of the Prudnik Region named after L. van Beethoven in Prudnik.

  • The 20th Moritz Brosig Festival of Organ and Chamber Music ("Music Beyond Borders") in Paczków.

  • The International Night of Choirs Festival in Ruda Śląska.

  • The Metropolitan Choral Festival in Katowice.

 

The group's repertoire is diverse and tailored to the current needs and interests of the singers. It spans sacred and secular works from the Renaissance to the modern era, also including choral arrangements of folk songs and popular music.

CONDUCTOR: Iwona Bańska is a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where she studied at the Faculty of Music Education in the conducting class of Prof. Jan Wojtacha. She further refined her conducting skills through numerous seminars and masterclasses. Since 1995, she has been a faculty member at the Academy of Music in Katowice, currently holding the position of Professor.

Artistic Leadership and Experience:

  • For over 30 years, she has served as the conductor of the Children's Choir at the Grzegorz Fitelberg State Music School (1st and 2nd degree) in Chorzów.

  • She is the conductor of the St. Cecilia Choir at the Basilica of the Virgin Mary in Piekary Śląskie, a member of the Confraternity of the Oldest Choirs and Orchestras. The choir has been honored with the Award of the Mayor of Piekary Śląskie and the Wawrzyniec Hajda Cultural Award.

  • She is the founder and artistic director of the "Santarello" Chamber Ensemble, based at the Cultural Center in Katowice.

Professional Activity: Alongside her ensembles, she participates in prestigious artistic events and collaborates with renowned cultural institutions. She frequently serves as a jury member for choral competitions and festivals. Additionally, she leads choral and conducting workshops and is deeply committed to the musical education of children and youth.
